Merl A. Rabik, 86, of Center Point, died Friday, October 13, 2006, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness with cancer. Private Services: Monday, October 16, 2006, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. Mike Ellson. The family will greet friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Alice Cemetery, rural Center Point.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Ellajean; two sons, Ronald Rabik of Center Point and Gary (Catherine) Rabik of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; a daughter, Cheryl (Hawley) Clark of Center Point; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Leslie.
Merl was born May 8, 1920, the son of Charles and Bertha (Mack) Rabik, in rural Center Point. On June 6, 1941, Merl was united in marriage to Ellajean McArthur at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He served with the United States Navy during World War II at the Japanese Theatre aboard the U.S.S. Rockbridge. After the war, Merl returned to farm with his dad and then continued to farm on his own. A proud member of a five generation family, he loved fishing and enjoyed going to Minnesota several times a year.
