Meredith “Dolly” Johnston, 85, of Anamosa, went to be reunited with her loving husband, Karl D. Johnston, and daughter, Karen Hickey, on Wednesday, October 29, 2014. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2014, at United Methodist Church, Springville. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 31, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha.
Survivors include four daughters, Carol Falco, of Solon, Wendy and husband, Lyle Tompkins of Clarence, Nancy and husband, Terry Wurster of Springville, Joyce and husband, Ron Berg of Anamosa; two sons, Lyle and wife, Kellie Johnston of Claremore, OK, Jeff and wife, JoLynn Johnston of Napoleon, KY; son-in-law, Dave Hickey of Cedar Rapids; 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Lenora and Frank Perez; brothers, Bill and Verlee Edwards, and Larry Edwards; and brothers-in-law, Claude Post, and Kenneth and Bev Johnston.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Karl D. Johnston; daughter Karen Hickey, son-in-law, Andy Falco; parents, Raymond and Mildred Edwards, and sister, Barb Post.
Dolly was born August 21, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Raymond and Mildred (Varner) Edwards. She was united in marriage to Karl D. Johnston on July 17, 1948. She was a lifelong homemaker. Together they resided in Springville. Karl and Dolly were foster parents to many children. After retirement, she and Karl moved to Anamosa. Dolly enjoyed playing cards with her many friends. She also bowled in many leagues. She liked going for walks, gardening, and followed horse racing. She loved spending time with her family.
We are comforted to know loved ones will greet her with open arms. Tell Dad and Karen we miss them!
