Melvin Harry Wesbrook, 81, a longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, September 29, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2011, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids by Father Ivan Nienhaus. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; four children, Tracy (Eric) Petersen, Scott (Kim) Wesbrook, Lisa Staude, and D.D. Wesbrook, all of Cedar Rapids; eleven grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Andrew, Thomas, Joseph, Anna, Shane, Hayley, Kamrie, Michael, Kristin, Jane, and Scott; and three brothers, Charles and Louie of Cedar Rapids, and Franklin of Bakersfield, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, David; and two sisters, Ruth and Irene.

Melvin was born February 5, 1930, the son of Harry and Elsie (Kobush) Wesbrook in St. Charles, Missouri. On October 17, 1953, he married Ruth A. Frye. Melvin proudly served with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and Korea. He worked at Allied Glass Company for over 40 years, retiring at 62.

Melvin was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Jefferson Booster Club. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal’s fan.

A memorial fund has been established in Melvin’s memory.
