Melvin Spinler, 78, formerly of Central City, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, Iowa followed by a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m. Friday. Inurnment at Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City, Iowa.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Shirley of Marion; children, Brad of Deltona, Florida and Brenda (Chris) Schmid of Central City; grandchildren, Linsey (Landon) Merkle, Austin (Jackie) Schmid, Dylan (Miranda) Schmid, and Scott (Kenzie) Spinler; great-grandchildren, Brennen and Zoey Merkle, Keaton and Tanner Schmid, and Finn Spinler; and his dog, Bandit.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Clemen; and two grandsons, Trent Schmid and Sam Spinler.
Melvin was born October 6, 1937, the son of Marvin and Dorothy (Wilcox) Spinler. He graduated from Coggon High School. Melvin served in the United States Navy. On September 15, 1956, he married Shirley Ann Biederman at St. John Catholic Church in Coggon. Melvin worked for 37 years at Rockwell as a machinist. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and boating. Melvin loved his family dearly and enjoyed the time they spent together.
