Melvin Raymond Malone, 65, of 115 16th Street SE, died Thursday, June 19 2003, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2003. The Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Dorene; two brothers, Phillip (Mona) Malone of Cedar Rapids and Dennis (Karol) Malone of Phoenix, Arizona; three sisters, Mary (Roger) Helle of Hopkinton, Sherrie (Ed) Shaw of Manchester, Denise (Emmitt) Grant of Cascade; two stepchildren, Brandy (Barry) Joyner and Dennis Malone, all of Cedar Rapids; a grandson, David Michael Kirchhoff, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Melvin was born July 7, 1937, the son of Dennis and Josephine Sands Malone, in Manchester, Iowa. He served with the United States Army. On July 6, 1991, he married Dorene Polton in Cedar Rapids. Melvin farmed the family farm near Aurora and worked for Wilsons Packing for 30 years. He attended Milestones regularly, where he had many good friends. Melvin was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester for most of his life. He loved to oil paint landscapes and golf.
