Melvin D. (Sam) Cress, 84, a life long farmer of rural Center Point, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, in his home following a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2006, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by Pastor Leo Andersen. Burial: Alice Cemetery, Center Point. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2006, at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Josy; his children, Ginnie (Bill) Geers; Dale (Pat) Cress and Connie (Darrell) Moore; grandsons, Craig Curtis, Matthew (Lyndsay) Cress, Eric Cress, Joshua Roseberry, Roger (Kelly) Roseberry, and Micky Roseberry; granddaughters, Tammy (Kevin) Humpfer, Megan Cress, Alishia Moore, and Samantha Moore; great grandchildren, Haley Humpfer, Bryce Humpfer, and Emma Curtis. Also surviving are his sisters, Valera McBurney and Maxine Miller.
Melvin was preceded in death by a son, Melvin L. Cress in 1960; his parents; a brother, Jack Cress; and two sisters, Valeta Martin and Berneta Caldwell.
Melvin was born May 14, 1921, the son of Calob Cress and Fay (Oliphant) Cress Beebe. On July 18, 1942, he was united in marriage to Josy Rabik.
