Melvin E. Beaudine, 92, of Manchester, died Sunday, February 12, 2006 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, following a short illness
Melvin?s remains were donated to Des Moines University. Services will be at a later date. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
Melvin was born November 14, 1913 in Des Moines, the son of Albert & Lila (Andrews) Beaudine. He graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1933. Melvin married Evelyn K. Mertes on February 5, 1944 at St. John?s Catholic Church in Des Moines. They resided in Des Moines for two years before moving to Atlantic, Iowa in 1946. The couple owned and operated a restaurant and then opened Beaudine Manufacturing, making lamp shades. In 1998, the couple moved to The Meadows in Manchester. Evelyn passed away January 5, 2000.
Mel enjoyed gambling and has made many trips to Las Vegas. He also enjoyed trading stocks on the computer and time spent doing so with his son Richard. A newly acquired pastime was listening to books-on-tape. Mel had been known to have a sweet tooth. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 445 of Atlantic.
Melvin is survived by one son and his wife, Richard & Marilyn Beaudine of Manchester, Iowa; four grandchildren, Dana, Brad, Wade and Aleshia; and ten great-grandchildren.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lila Beaudine; and his wife, Evelyn.
