Maynard Lewis Beitz, age 82, of Fort Collins, CO passed away March 15, 2023, at his home after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Graveside Service with Military Honors to be held Tuesday, March 21, 2023, 11:00am at Buck Creek Cemetery, Hopkinton, IA.
His parents were Everett and Elma (Porter) Beitz of Hopkinton, Iowa. He graduated from Buck Creek School in 1958, then worked for Johnny Saunders, Hopkinton Co-op, and Bill Murray Grain. Maynard enlisted in the US Army and honorably served for two years before he was honorably discharged to return home and marry his bride, Calista Kay Wilson in Manchester, IA on 9/9/1967. They have one son, Steven John Beitz.
Maynard started a career working for Woodward Governor Company in Rockford, IL., and then transferred to Fort Collins, CO in 1967 and continued until retirement in 1995.
Then to enjoy retirement he helped local farmers and enjoyed his chinchilla herd he started in 1969 until he sold the herd in 2020. During his years of chinchilla ranching he won over 100 trophies and was inducted into the Chinchilla Breeders Hall of Fame for years of dedication to the industry and served as Colorado Branch President and Vice President for many years.
He will be greatly missed by many.
Maynard is survived by his wife Calista (Wilson) of 55 years and son Steven Beitz (Amy Palmer) of Wellington, CO. Siblings Charlotte Emerson, of Manchester, IA, Donna (Chuck) Hettinger of Greeley, CO, Diane Beitz of Manchester, IA, and Gerald (Sue) Beitz of Monticello, IA.
Preceded in death by parents Everett and Elma Beitz, brother Leon, brother Norman, and infant brother Kenneth Beitz.
