Maynard J. Bauer, 94, of Walker, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at his home. Visitation: 4:00- 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, Iowa. Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2017, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Independence, Iowa, conducted by Pastor Michael Holmen. Burial: Walker Cemetery, Walker, Iowa.
Survivors include his children, Edmund (Judy) Bauer of Walker, and Donita (Jill Thompson) Bauer of St. Louis, Missouri; son-in-law, Mark Ellis of Chandler, Arizona; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and brother, Charles (Peggy) Bauer of Dade City, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy on August 26, 2004; daughter, Susan Ellis; son, Edward Bauer; brother, Eldon Bauer; and grandson, Daniel Bauer.
Maynard was born on March 27, 1923, in Wellman, Iowa, son of Ben and Dora (Blum) Bauer. He graduated from Wellman High School in 1941. Maynard served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 during WWII. On July 14, 1946, Dorothy Fox and Maynard were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fairbank, Iowa. He was a self-employed farmer near Walker and was an active church member at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Independence.
