Maxine Viola Moore, 85, of Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, 200 Clive Drive S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed peacefully into the arms of the Angels on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, surrounded by her family. Services: 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Dan Clark-Bridges. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., today, (Monday, July 20, 2009) at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
She is survived by two sons, Clarence H. Moore and significant other Marlene Taylor of Union, Iowa and Charles L. Moore and wife Marilyn of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Emily Falada and husband Paul of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Rudolph Butters of Apple Valley, California; four sisters, Bernice Moore of Cedar Rapids, Geraldine (Mrs. Harold) Lanning of Toddville, Emily Hines of Urbana and Jean (Mrs. Sharon) Tatro of Clinton; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and her cat Sandy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her life partner of 25 years, Conway Jones; a daughter, Dorothy Mae Moore; a daughter-in-law, Eleanor Moore; a son-in-law, Dennis Valandingham; a brother, Stanley Butters; a sister, Dorothy Raymer; a grandson, Jeffery Shukers; a half brother, Ross Butters; and two half sisters, Edna Pierce and Grace Wolfe.
Maxine was born on October 21, 1923, to Harlan Ross and Emily (Ronek) Butters. Maxine grew up in Cedar Rapids and spent most of her time as a resident here. She was married to Clarence Lee Moore on June 2, 1943. She enjoyed time with her family and friends and playing bingo. She loved the stuffed animals she won and proudly displayed them for her visitors to see. She also loved cats.
The family would like to express their heart felt thanks to the nursing staff at Heritage, the emergency response crew, the emergency room staff at Mercy Medical Center and most of all the ICU staff at Mercy for being there for Maxine during such a difficult time.
