Maxine K. Himes, 91, a resident of Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion, formerly of Central City, died Friday, June 26, 2009, at the care center. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Central City by Father Wayne Droessler. The family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2009, at the funeral home. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Prairieburg.
Survivors include four sons, and two daughters, Carrol and Shirley Himes of Cedar Rapids, Kay and Raymond Drury of Central City, Lyle and Bonnie Himes of Marion, Kathy and Steve Freiburg of Marion, Stewart (Bug) and Donna Himes of Anamosa, and Charlie Himes of Central City; 17 grand children; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marion; a son, Raymond Himes; and a brother, Roy Kokemuller.
Maxine was born December 23, 1917, in Monmouth, Iowa, to William and Myrtle (Musser) Kokemuller. She was married to Marion Himes on June 30, 1936, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg. He died January 4, 1994. Maxine will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
