Maxine Evelyn Gordon, 99, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 2, 2018, at Living Center West after a lengthy illness. Visitation: 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Memorial service: 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Reception to follow at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, Cedar Rapids.
Maxine was born on December 4, 1918, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Soren C. and Sena Hansen. She married Arthur Larimer in 1938. He died during World War II in 1943. She then married Paul E. Gordon on June 19, 1948. He died November 16, 1994.
Maxine was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, and Hanford Post #5 Legion Auxiliary.
In her youth, she enjoyed bowling, dancing, and playing softball. She enjoyed watching sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. Maxine liked all kinds of music and crafts; she handmade over 500 tie blankets for her church family, family members and charity. She was known as the “candy lady” at church where she enjoyed greeting friends and guests as they arrived for service. Most of all, Maxine loved her family and friends.
Maxine is survived by two sons, Mark E. (Deb) Gordon of Radcliff, Kentucky and Craig L. (Jodi) Gordon of St. Joseph, Missouri; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and two expected this year; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, four sisters, both husbands, and infant daughter, Diana Rae Gordon.
