Maxine A. (LeMont) Edwards, 93, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 14, 2011, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2011, at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids by Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum and Rev. Dr. Bradly Thomas. Family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday, November 18, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Private Family Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Survivors include her devoted husband of 46 years, Gordon; three children, Colleen (William) Pickett of Orlando, FL, Vicki (Joe) Finkstein of Marion, and Steven (Marlene) LeMont of Fairfax; Gordon’s children, Sheryl Prosser of Richardson, TX, Charles Edwards and Sally Rowley, both of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a niece, Sandra Wilt; and a nephew, Dale Allen.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard LeMont; her parents; and sisters, Helen Feyen and Dortha Allen.

Maxine was born May 12, 1918, in Dysart, Iowa, the daughter of John A. and Mabel C. (Longaker) Boyd. She attended Sigourney High School. On November 23, 1938, she was united in marriage to Richard E. LeMont. He died February 5, 1963. Maxine married Gordon J. Edwards on September 24, 1965, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Maxine retired from Cedar Rapids Public School System as an assistant to the librarian at Harding Middle School. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids and enjoyed her Renovare group. Maxine was a longtime member of the Indian Creek Country Club. Gordon and Maxine wintered in Arizona with many friends. Friends will remember Maxine for her sense of humor and the way she dressed and coordinated for any occasion. She took much pride in her appearance. She liked to play cards, go shopping, and play golf. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, aunt, and friend. She will be dearly missed.
