Max E. Hocken, 98, of Robins, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Emery Place. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion with visitation an hour prior. Burial with full military honors for Max and his son, David Hocken, a Vietnam Veteran who died February 18, 2020, will be at Troy Mills Cemetery.
Max was born August 20, 1923, in Winthrop, Iowa, the son of Carl and Mae (Hearn) Hocken. He attended Troy Mills High School before honorable service in the United States Army during World War two. Upon returning Max became a machinist for Rockwell-Collins for over 30 years, where he worked on the first Apollo Rocket. On June 30, 1942, Max was united in marriage to Dorothy Jean Moler in Kahoka, Missouri. Max could fix just about anything, including rebuilding a wrecked Porsche. He loved to winter in Arizona. Max will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Max is survived and lovingly remembered by three children, Carol Sue (Jim) Kinyon of Roland, Iowa, Steve Hocken of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Betty (Dennis) Rommann of Casa Grande, Arizona; six grandchildren, Deborah Littlefield, Dr. Jeff (Dorothy) Kinyon, Trent (Alejandra) Rommann, Ryan (Leena) Rommann, Jenna Netz, Daniel Carl (Britny) Hocken; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mae Hocken; wife, Dorothy Hocken; two sons, Douglas Hocken, and David Hocken; three brothers, Merlin, Delmer, and Harlan; and sister, Delmer’s twin, Della Zobeck and his companion of 23 years, Marjorie Wolverton.
