Mavis Arlene Anderson

Mavis Arlene (Foreman) Anderson was blessed to enter into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Sunday, March 8, 2015. Family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Seals Campbell Funeral Home, Marseilles, Illinois, with an additional visitation from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial: Section Cemetery, Marseilles, Illinois.
Mavis is survived by her children, June (Jeff) Fleming of Olney, Illinois, Dr. Kenneth Wayne (Kathy) Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Randy (Debbie) Anderson of Seabrook, Texas, Rodney Anderson of Chicago, Illinois, and Joan (Ron) Franck of Newhall, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Weston Anderson; son, Wesley Keith Anderson; parents, Allen and Mamie Foreman; sister, Hazel Friestad; and brother, Harold Foreman.
Mavis was born October 7, 1923, in her parent’s home in rural Sheridan, Illinois. She loved growing up on a farm. As a child she would rather be outside playing with animals than inside doing dishes. That is probably why she seldom minded walking the fence lines on her way to the little one room school house. Growing up she learned to swim at the local gravel pit and had fond memories of going roller skating weekly with her family. It was at a Sunday church roller staking event that Mavis met her future husband.
After graduating from Somanauk High School. Mavis worked for Luminous Processes, Inc. where she hand painted fluorescent dials for WWII war planes.
On March 18, 1943 Mavis married Kenneth Weston Anderson. They farmed Ken’s family farm near Seneca, Illinois, until moving to Newhall, Iowa, in the fall of 1997. Together Mavis and Ken raised six children. Mavis was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was an excellent homemaker who enjoyed sewing, gardening and canning. Mavis had a thoughtful, gentle spirit and a fantastic memory for dates. Seldom did she forget to send birthday or anniversary cards to loved ones. Even the week prior to her death she would read through the names written in her birthday book.
Mavis always liked to be home. She often joked about her inability to spend a night at her grandparent’s home. Her dad would have to get her before the sun went down. Knowing this, it was very important for her family to be able to provide care for Mavis at home during her final days.
After the death of her husband in 2011, Mavis was welcomed into and made her home with her daughter, Joan and son-in-law, Ron. She appreciated life in the country on the farm and being with her family. Mavis was surrounded by the love and activities of Joan and Ron’s five children Kelsey, Nathan, Caleb, Ashley and Joshua. It was at home bathed in love and with the help of hospice that Mavis was able to comfortably and peacefully move from this earthly life into the final and True Home of her Saviors loving arms.
