Maurita Elizabeth Ewart, 94, of Springville, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family. Visitation: 4 – 7 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016, at the Springville Presbyterian Church. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016, at the church. Burial: Springville Cemetery. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.

Maurita was born October 23, 1921, in Lisbon, Iowa, the only child of Willard and Mabel (Duncan) Hoffman. She attended school at Abbe Creek. She was united in marriage to J. Paul Ewart on March 9, 1938, at Springville Presbyterian Church. She and Paul farmed in the Springville area until retiring in 1980. She worked in the alteration department at Younkers for several years.

She was a hard working farm wife. She enjoyed canning and baking. Her family thought her apple pie was the best. She raised chickens. She enjoyed gardening and watching the birds in her yard.

She and Paul enjoyed traveling after retirement. She especially enjoyed time spent with family and friends at their cabin at Waupeton.

Her faith and family were most important to her.

She was a member of the Springville Presbyterian Church since 1936 and a member of Love Chapter #407 OES.

She is survived by her son, Willard Ewart (Cookie Vanous); daughters, Mickie (Marlyn) Benish and Paula (Larry) Bachman; grandchildren, Kim (Kevin) Nelson, Jodi Borron, Judy (Scott) Coons, Todd (Carrie) Ewart, Amy (Justin) Hornett, Brian (Katie) Benish, Heather Bachman, and Anna Bachman; great-grandchildren, Shea (Nicole) Nelson, Maddie Nelson, Jamey (Aaron) Houghtaling, Jenna Borron, Joelle Coons, Lanie Coons (Calvin Schnucker), GeAnna Coons, Jaxson Hornett, Kaylee Hornett, and Logan Benish; great-great-grandchildren, RayLynne and Jay Houghtaling; step-grandchildren, Dee Ann (Chuck) Nejdl, Dawn (Rob) Schorg, and Don (Lori) Wacker; and step-great-grandchildren, Brittany and Trevor Schorg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul and her parents.

Our family would like to thank Unity Point Hospice for the compassionate care given to mom, especially her team of Robin, Suzanne, Becky and Jan.
