Maurine Martha Smola, 94, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016, at Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016, at United Church of Christ, Central City, Iowa. Burial will follow at Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City. The family will greet friends during a luncheon at the church following burial. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City, Iowa.
Maurine is survived by her brother, James (Del) Kirkpatrick of Arizona; children, Steve (Louise) Smola of Central City and Dennis (Jaynne) Smola of Dyersville; grandchildren, Jackie Smola of Shawnee, Kansas and Stan Smola of Marengo; great-grandchildren, Katie and Liz Ortgies; step-grandchildren, Tammy Ryan, Tracy (Yvonne) Ryan, Aaron (Julie) Weldin, Jamie (Jamie) Weldin, and Kristin Weldin; step-great-grandchildren, Travis Ryan, Stevie and Taryn Ryan, Emma Weldin, twins, Lilly and Dayton Weldin, and Sophia, Elliot, and Ian Loso; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carroll; twin sister, Maude Juilfs; brothers Robert, William, Rollin, Kenneth, and Glen Kirkpatrick; twins, Chester and Cecil; and sister, Clara.
Maurine was born on August 6, 1921, in Tipton, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Florence (Wilkerson) Kirkpatrick. In 1940, she graduated from Tipton High School. Maurine married Carroll H. Smola on January 25, 1941, in Tipton. She was a farm housewife near Onslow, Iowa and then near Central City until 1996. Maurine was the first to move in at the Three Oaks Center in Central City. She was a member of Central City United Church of Christ, Worthy Matron of Linn Chapter Order of Eastern Star, and served two terms on the Central City Community School District’s School Board.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Maurine’s memory to a favorite charity of the donor’s choice.
