Maurice L. Port, 78, of Waubeek, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016. Visitation: 4 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Central City United Methodist Church. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016, at the church by Pastor Josh Hansen with visitation one hour prior to the service time. Burial: Jordan’s Grove Cemetery in rural Central City.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; his daughters, Kimberly (Ev) Heady, Karen (Steve) Babbitt, Whitney Port, and Jenny Rickles; his sons, Kevin (Rhonda) Port, and Kraig (Sue) Port; 23 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings, Linda (Bill), Marilyn (Wayne), Verlee (Jerry), Jackie (Rex), Jeff, Mark (Marie).
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lois; and one sister, Darlyce.
Maurice was born to Loren and Romona (Moyer) Port on February 13, 1938, in Cedar Rapids. Maurice enjoyed supporting all of his children and grandchildren in their activities. He was an avid fan of wrestling and played ball for the town of Waubeek with many of his wonderful friends. Maurice loved watching the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes, and NASCAR. He had many jobs including, carpentry and farming, and retired from Federal Hybrid Inc. During his retirement he enjoyed John Wayne, International Cub Cadets and Farmall Tractors.
