Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home conducted by Reverend Carla Burge. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Maurice was born September 6, 1920, in rural Linn County, the son of Taylor and Ella (Smith) Minor. He was a 1939 graduate of Martelle High School and was united in marriage to Eileen Strong on August 1, 1942, in Cedar Rapids. He was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Maurice began farming in Linn County before moving to Delaware County, where he farmed for 58 years. He was a member of Linn Grove Church in rural Mt. Vernon, Delaware County Conservation Board, former member and trustee of First Presbyterian Church in Manchester, member of the former Fish and Game Club, north of Manchester, the Thomas Minor Society and the Walter Palmer Society. Maurice loved to fish, travel, and share his family genealogy. His words of wisdom when it came to traveling were, “Go while you can!” In 2014, he was fortunate to experience the Honor Flight. Maurice will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his children, Elaine Minor (Mick Allen) of Tiffin; Neil Minor of Ryan, and Mark Minor of Monarch, Montana; sister, Edith Lyon of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Norman Neal of Swisher; sister-in-law, Jean Strong of Springdale, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.
Maurice was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 73 years, Eileen Minor; stillborn daughter, Barbara Ann Minor; son, David Minor; three sisters, Irene Switzer, Lois Wehrhan, and Isabelle Richardson; and a brother, Glen Minor.
