Matthew W. Smith, 45, of Victor, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, February 21, 2004, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics following complications from diabetes. Services: 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 24, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Parker Knoll and Rev. J. Offt of Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment: Linwood Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; his parents, Richard and Delores (Dee) Smith of Cedar Rapids; his step-children, Nathan (Kari) Draper of Newton, Nicky (David) Slater of Vinton; a granddaughter, Kali Draper; a sister, Tracy (Mike) Mullin of Turtle Lake, Wisconsin; and a brother, Greg (Joell) Smith of Cedar Rapids.
Matthew was born October 7, 1958, the son of Richard and Delores (Dee) (Cabalka) Smith in Cedar Rapids. He married Linda Draper on April 19, 1994, in Ladora, Iowa. Matthew was a self-employed construction worker. He was a self-taught guitar player and enjoyed his music. Matthew will be greatly missed.
