Maryellen Clarke

MaryEllen Clarke, 92, of 4845 Johnson Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids, died, Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Christ Church Presbyterian by Rev. Ron Lewis. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her son, James (Julie) Clarke of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Amy (Mike) McKinley, Sean (Deanna) Clarke and Holly (Chad) Karr, all of Waterloo; and seven great-grandchildren, Allison and Amber McKinley, Samantha, Noel and Nicole Clarke and Mitchell and Ellie Karr.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Firman; and three brothers, LeRoy, Emery and Robert Freeman.
MaryEllen was born December 21, 1915, the daughter of Earl and Elizabeth (Emery) Freeman, in Marion, Iowa. On December 14, 1934, she was united in marriage to Firman Clarke in Rock Island, Illinois. He died in 1974. For 21 years, MaryEllen worked for Fannie Farmer Candies, retiring as manager in 1982. A longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, she was a member of the Christ Church Presbyterian.
