Mary C. Tschantz, 90, of rural Springville, died Monday, January 21, 2008, at home following a lengthy illness. Services: 1:30 Sunday, January 27, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, in Marion, by Rev. Karen Downy-Beals. The family will greet friends from 2 -5 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Anamosa, Iowa.
Survivors include her children, Robert (Shirley)Tschantz of Springville and Kathryn Hermanstorfer of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 6 grandchildren, Dan (Rhonda) Tschantz of Urbana, David (Robyn) Tschantz of Collins, Connie (Mike) Barnes of Vinton, Pam (Michael) Goad of Springville, Christine Colvin of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Laura (Tim) Myers of Portland, Oregon; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irvin; her son-in-law Ron Hermanstorfer; her siblings, brother, Paul Nelson, and sisters, Anna Laker, Violet “Jackie” Enquirez, Wilma Rich, Elsie Watson and an infant sister.
Mary was born on December 15, 1917, the daughter of Martin and Bertha (Gunther) Nelson, near Anamosa, Iowa. She married Irvin Tschantz on July 31, 1937. He died on December 21, 1992. During her life, Mary worked for the Penford Credit Union and the Salvation Army, but her favorite occupation was cooking for her family and sharing her wonderful homemade pies and meals. She also enjoyed flowers and gardening. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her passion.
A memorial has been established in Mary’s memory.
