Mary Nora Roby Titler, 87, a resident of Silver Pines Assisted Living, died Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center, following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2006, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Mark Osterhaus. Visitation will be from 4-8 Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Virginia (Patrick) Hurley of Urbandale; a son, John (Leslie) Titler of Swisher; brothers, Oliver C. Roby of Cedar Rapids and Donald L. (Sue) Roby of Decorah; a brother-in-law, Robert (Virginia) Titler of Alburnett; nine grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gilbert; and her sister, Donna Kettering.
Mary was born June 14, 1919, the daughter of Loy Wallace and Nona (Casey) Roby in Billings, Montana. On February 6, 1941, in Central City, she was united in marriage to Gilbert E Titler. Mary quilted, sewed and knitted, she loved to read, do crossword puzzles, needlework, and was an avid walker. She was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church and St. Bernadette?s Circle at St. Matthews.
Mary was always an energetic and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. After retirement from her bookkeeping position at Armstrong?s Department Store, Mary spent time as a generous and helpful volunteer at St. Matthews. All of Mary?s family and friends will miss her loyal and caring manner. She was always a willing hostess, listener, seamstress and sports fan.
