Mary Patricia Soden (Riffey)
March 18, 1921 — July 20, 2009
Mary Patricia Soden, 88, a resident of West Ridge Care Center, died there Monday, July 20, 2009, after a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 24, 2009, at Kenwood Park Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Laura Smith. The family will greet friends from 5 ?" 8 p.m., Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Urbana Cemetery, Urbana, Iowa.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Judy (Bruce) Harford of Marion and Jean (Robert) Fredsall of Cedar Rapids; 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 step-grandson; and 4 step-great grandchildren; her siblings, Marie Sandage, Janet (Don) Stickle, Martha Relf, and Phillip (Shirley) Riffey; a dear friend, Edna Gelski; and many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 3 brothers; and 1 sister.
Mary was born March 18, 1921, the daughter of John Minor and Alice Naoma (Fetherkile) Riffey, in Philip, South Dakota. She married Elzo Ray Soden on April 9, 1940, in Urbana, Iowa. They were married 63 years and were longtime residents of Urbana and Marion. Elzo passed away on September 21, 2003. Mary is a retiree from Rockwell Collins, having worked there for 30 years. Mary loved her family and friends; enjoyed church activities, loved visiting and having company, and was an active member of the Red Hat Society.
