Mary S. Severson (Brannan)

Mary S. Severson, 93, a long time resident of Marion, died Saturday, October 24, 2009, at the Solon Care Center. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, by Father Rod Allers. The family will greet friends from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann “Sam” Nielsen of Des Moines; a son, John (Lisa) Severson of Denver, Colorado; 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, and one brother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Palmer; a grandson; 1 brother, and 2 sisters.
Mary was born July 27, 1916, in Harpers Ferry, Iowa. She graduated from Harpers Ferry High School in 1935 and married Palmer Severson on August 26, 1946, in Lansing, Iowa. They lived most of their lives in Marion. Palmer died April 20, 1981. Mary worked at the Boston Store for 20 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
A memorial fund has been established in Mary’s memory.
