Mary Patten (Patten)
June 6, 1951 — November 15, 2007
Mary Patten, 56, of Marion died at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a brief illness on Thursday, November 15, 2007. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2007, at First United Methodist Church, 12th Street and 8th Avenue in Marion. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements are with Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Mary was born June 6, 1951, to Lois and Cecil Patten in rural Linn County. She graduated from Marion High School in 1969 and later attended Hamilton College. She worked for HACAP in the WIC clinic and on the Headstart program, where her favorites were the children. Her love of children was also reflected in her Sunday School teaching at First United Methodist Church for many years.
Mary will be greatly missed by her son, Jason Patten; her aunt; uncle; cousins; sister-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and her work colleagues.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Charles Lyle Patten.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Christian Education, First United Methodist Church Office, 1298 7th Ave., Marion IA 52302, in Mary’s memory.
