Mary Lehman Williams was born December 27, 1918, of goodly parents through the lineage of James Williams and Amelia Lehman. She was the eldest of three with her brother, Robert C. Williams and sister, Margaret Williams Loghry joining the family. After graduating from Fairbank High School, Mary went onto Upper Iowa University graduating with a teaching degree in Music. She taught her entire life.
On October 17, 1945, she married Wallace K. Oldfather, who had just returned from the military service in World War II. They moved to Volga, Iowa, where Mary started raising a family and taught English. In 1961, they moved to Manchester where she taught Geometry and Calculus until her retirement from West Delaware High School. Mary continued active community service in Manchester until her death on October 4, 2013.
She will be missed by her sister, Margaret Loghry of Iowa City and her daughter, Janet Meyer of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Julie (Keith) Green of Arizona, Linda (Paul) Moellers of Mechanicsville, David Meyer of Cedar Rapids, Jennifer (Patrick) Eggleston of Solon, Jonathan Meyer of Cedar Rapids, Carrie Williams of Illinois and Ryan Oldfather of Stone City; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wally; son, Mike; brother, Bob Williams; and son-in-law, Lyle Meyer;
Services: 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at the Manchester United Methodist Church, by Pastor Michael Druhl and Rev. Mary Green. The family will greet friends from 1:30 pm until service time on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements with Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester. Private Burial: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
