Mary Ann Myers, 95, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at The Views of Marion. A Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, where the family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service. Certified Celebrant Suzanne Seigel Renner will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Manchester, Iowa.
Mary was born on May 13, 1929, in Cherokee, Kansas, one of eight children to James and Elsie (Russell) Stiffin. She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On October 29, 1961, Mary was united in marriage to Donald Durston Myers at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion. Together with her husband, Mary co-owned and operated Dairy Queen #4, which was located at 501 16th Street NE in Cedar Rapids. She also worked for Bell Telephone as a Switchboard Operator. Mary was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion, where she also served on the Altar Guild. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Mary loved fishing, gardening, drawing, painting, baking pies, and antique collecting. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially babysitting her grandchildren. Mary will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mary is survived and lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Sherri (Lance) Bisinger of Marion, and Kristy Heeren of Marion; grandchildren, Toni (Jordan) Dierks of Kansas City, Missouri, Paige (Joshua) Larson of Phoenix, Arizona, and Alyssa Heeren of Lavon, Texas; three siblings, Virginia (Jim) Smetzer of Marion, Darlene Storey of Hemet, California, and Franklin Stiffin of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 34 years, Donald Myers; and four siblings, Jimmy Stiffin, Amy Cole, June Stiffin, and Frank Stiffin.
Memorials in Mary’s memory may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff of both The Views of Marion and Hospice of Mercy, for the love, care, and compassion they gave to Mary during her final days.
