Mary Ellen “Micky” Sagers, 77, of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, formally of Central City, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, no longer burdened by her body, on Tuesday May 29, 2012, in Cedar Rapids. At her request, no service will be held. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Mary Ellen was born on August 17, 1934, to Emil & Alta (Oltman) Husmann in Scotch Grove, Iowa, the second of two children. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1953. She married Jeff Sagers in 1959, in Maquoketa, Iowa, and was mother to three children.
After being diagnosed as a teenager, Micky courageously endured a lifelong battle with diabetes. She loved the outdoors, long walks (even in extreme weather), “watering the birds,” country music and she never met a dog she didn’t talk to. Her job at Eddie’s Tap and 5Cs gave her years of joy serving others. She also worked as a waitress in Monticello and Maquoketa.
She is loved and will be missed by her family and many friends from over the years. Everyone who knew Micky will miss her special giggle.
She is survived by her three children, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her ex-husband, Jeff. Daughter Julie Dye (husband Jim) of Mt. Vernon, IA; grandsons Jordan Dye of Des Moines, IA and Jared Dye of Mt. Vernon, IA. Daughter Jana Long (husband Mike) of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandsons Nathaniel Morarie (wife Rachel) of Vinton, IA; great-grandchildren Blake and Abby Morarie. Grandson Andrew Morarie and granddaughter Rose Morarie, both of Cedar Rapids, IA. Son Kurt Sagers, Stillwater, OK; grandsons Levi and Kamron Sagers, and granddaughter Taylor Sagers.
