Mary Ann "Mayme? Mensen, 79, of Manchester died Friday night, July 2, 2004 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester following a short illness.

Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester by Rev. Dennis Miller. Friends may call from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home in Manchester with a Scripture Service at 2:00 and for one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery in Manchester.

Mary Ann was born on March 1, 1925 in Farley, the daughter of Bernard and Agatha (Oberbroeckling) Engelken. On January 16, 1945 Mary Ann was united in marriage to Ambrose J. Mensen at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Greeley. The couple farmed northeast of Manchester. In 1990 they retired and moved to their home in Manchester. Ambrose died May 25, 1993.

Mary Ann was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester where she belonged to the St. Gerard North Study Club, Catholic Daughters of America and St. Mary?s Quilting Group. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and Neighborhood JEFF Club. Mary Ann was a long-time 4-H leader. She was a very active volunteer within the community. She loved canning, quilting, crocheting, and cooking. Mary Ann enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends.

Mary Ann is survived by eleven children, Jim (Jeanette) Mensen of Decorah, Bill (Lisa) Mensen of Manchester, Agnes (Don) Burns of Davenport, Joyce (Ron) Wendt of Anamosa, Carolyn (Al) Wilson, Donna (Bill) Thomsen, Teresa Mensen, and Ruth (Al) Boge all of Manchester, Sandy (Bob) Kass of Epworth, Janet (Arnie) Fortman of Canton, MN, Diane (Mike) Even of Worthington; thirty four grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Joe (Viola) Engelken of Manchester, Albert (Inez) Engelken of Dyersville, Don (Karen) Engelken of Wauwatosa, WI; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eileen Engelken of New Vienna, Arnold (Charlotte) Mensen and Leo (Dorothy) Mensen of Earlville, Laverne (Janice) Mensen of Petersburg, Irene Mensen of Manchester.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard & Agatha Engelken; her husband, Ambrose Mensen; two brothers, Lawrence & Clarence Engelken and a brother-in-law, Edmund Mensen.
