Mary Pauline Matias, 95, of Higley Mansion Care Center, Cedar Rapids, died there, Saturday morning, February 7, 2004, following a short illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Gerald Condon. Burial: St. John?s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service is charge of arrangements.

Survivors include a brother, George Matias of Cedar Rapids; nephews Robert, John and Mark Matias, all of Cedar Rapids, and Ronald of Monrovia, Indiana; and nieces, Mary Kay of Zanesville, Ohio, Joan Mosel of Cedar Rapids and Patricia Gilliatt of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Josephine Matias; and a brother, William.

She was born February 8, 1908, to John and Josephine (Tobes) Matias. Mary was one of the first graduates from St. Wenceslaus High School in 1925. In 1929, she graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. For many years, she was a registered nurse, working in private duty and hospital nursing. She spent the later part of her nursing career as an office nurse for Dr. Kopecky. Mary will be remembered fondly as a nurse and for taking care of the sick.
