Mary G. Marling, 103, a resident of Living Center West, died there Friday, October 27, 2006, from complications of age. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. Gary Hoyt. Graveside Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006, at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Surviving are Mary?s children, Harold (LaVonne) Marling of Marion, Elza "Bill? (Ruth) Marling of Bertram, Virginia (Keith) Hassman of Sun City, Arizona, Gardena (William) Rector of Denver, Iowa, Neva (Lee) Walton of Eagan, Minnesota.
Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and Mary?s deceased son Richard?s wives, Luella Marling of Cedar Rapids and Marcia Marling of Eureka, California.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Phillip and Richard; a daughter, Leota; three brothers, Fred, Ralph and Roy; a grandson, Phillip; and a granddaughter, Melinda.
Mary was born the daughter of William and Sarah (Payne) Spitler on July 7, 1903, in Delaware County. On December 7, 1923, she was united in marriage to Elza S. Marling in Buchanan County. He died December 5, 1991. She was a member of St. Mark?s United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
