Mary Main, 89, of Walker, Iowa died peacefully Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Living Center West, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Zion Presbyterian Church, Coggon. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. Burial: Coggon Cemetery, Coggon.
Survivors include her son, Terry (Julie) Main of Muscatine, Iowa; sister, Alice Quint of Marshalltown; and grandchildren, Leslie (Chuy) Cardoza of Grimes, Michael Main of Urbandale, Molly Main (Travis Heuton) of North Liberty, and Megan Main (Nick Filipi) of Ames.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford “Lee” Main; granddaughter, Andrea Main; and sister, Emma Bacon.
Mary was born on July 3, 1924, in rural Cedar Falls, daughter of Clarence and Esther (Stimson) Popp. She attended school in Masonville, and graduated from Lamont High School. Mary married Clifford “Lee” Main on June 20, 1944, in Manchester; he later died on December 5, 2007. She worked at Collins Radio, Killian’s Department Store and Iowa-Illinois Gas. The couple raised their family and farmed. She was a very active member of Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon where she was a member of ZPW. Mary was also a member of Betty Grove Homemakers Club, R.A.R.E. Club and a longtime Linn County Election Official. She loved to collect salt and pepper shakers. The couple attended the Cedar Rapids Kernels baseball games and was active with the team, and they enjoyed going on bus tour trips. Most of all she loved her family and all the activities her grandchildren were involved in.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her honor.
