Mary Kathryn Lynch, 94, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, where a Rosary will begin at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, located at 2310 1st Avenue NE, in Cedar Rapids, with Reverend Douglas Loecke officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Mary was born on March 2, 1929, in rural Jesup, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Victoria (Weber) Burger. She was a 1946 graduate of Jesup High School. On August 18, 1951, Mary was united in marriage to Donald E. Lynch at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa.
She was a former member of Women’s Connection at St. Joseph Church in Marion, as well as Sisters of Mercy Associate. In 1994, she retired as a secretary at the Appraisal Associates Company in Cedar Rapids. She was an amazing woman who not only managed her home, but she also created decorative cakes and baking for events, refinishing antique furniture, and sewed for her family. Her greatest joy was babies. Mary will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mary is survived and lovingly remembered by her eight children, Theresa Jennings of Wickenburg, Arizona, Elizabeth (Cecil) Johnson of Tybee Island, Georgia, Kevin (Becky) Lynch of Ulm, Montana, D. Edward (Delores) Lynch of Cedar Rapids, Mary Jo (Mike) Hoff of Dayton, Minnesota, Kathryn (Brian) Clemen of Hiawatha, Iowa, John (Stacy) Lynch of Owatonna, Minnesota and Donna (Dale) Lynch of Park City, Utah; seven grandchildren, Eli Johnson and Emily (Cory) Buschio, Justin (Amber) Hoff, Ashten (Karl) Buchholz, Brenden Hoff, Courtney (Timmon) Higgins and Emma (Desmond) Candella; six great-grandchildren; one step grandson, Lamont Marshall; three step great-grandchildren; two step great-great-grandchildren, her sister, Alice Meyer of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and one brother, Donald (Louise) Burger of Jesup.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 60 years, Donald Lynch; and one brother, Kenneth Burger.
Memorials in Mary’s memory may be directed to either: St. Matthew Catholic Church; or Camp Courageous of Monticello, Iowa.
