Mary A. Luber, 87, a resident of Silver Pines Nursing Home, Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at the nursing home following a sudden illness. Private family services will be held at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
She is survived by her children, Marjorie Pierce and husband Larry of Papillion, Nebraska, Martha Driscoll and husband Roger of Dubuque, Iowa and Michael Luber of Austin, Texas; and six grandchildren, Kristine and husband K.J. Pilcher of Cedar Rapids, Carolyn Driscoll of Des Moines, Sarah Driscoll of Dubuque, and Keil, Meagan, and Kierstin Luber, all of Austin, Texas.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Martin; and her parents.
She was born April 1, 1917, the daughter of John A. and Estella Francis (Savage) Yorke, in Rand, West Virginia. On January 26, 1945, she was united in marriage to Martin P. Luber, in Masstricht, Holland. He died on September 4, 2000. Mary served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during WWII. She worked briefly as an R.N. at St. Luke?s hospital following WWII. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Home Missionary Society. Other activities included scouting and P.T.A. She was an avid golfer, gardner, and enjoyed fishing & cooking.
The family thanks Amenity Hospice and all the staff at Silver Pines for the kind compassionate care shown to Mary. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church in memory of Mary.
