Mary Jo Little, 47, of Independence, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a courageous battle with cancer.
Family will greet friends from 3-8 p.m. Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville with a memorial scripture service at 7 p.m. Inurnment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Delhi at a later date.
Mary Jo was born July 5, 1960 in Manchester, the daughter of Donald H. and Eva E. “Betty” (Sands) Heims. She graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School in 1978 and attended Kirkwood Community College. Mary Jo worked as an in-home health aide. On June 9, 1984, Mary Jo was united in marriage to Mark Little at Silver Lake Park in Delhi. Mary Jo was the assistant activity director at East Towne Manor in Independence, worked for the Winthrop newspaper and most recently for Dr. Mark Zimmers, P.C. in Independence.
Mary Jo will be remembered as a very compassionate person. Family was a very important part of her life. She took care of her grandmother, Eva Sands, with loving care for several years. Mary Jo was a member of the Heartland Flyers, an ultra-light flying club.
Mary Jo is survived by her loving husband, Mark Little of Independence; one son and his wife, Chase “Boy” and Allyson “Girl” Little of Independence; her mother, Betty Hill of Manchester; step-father, Jim Hill of Manchester; two brothers, Gary Heims and Bill (JoLynn) Heims, both of Delhi; a sister, Kay (Dennis) Routier of Manchester; a special brother-in-law, Craig Little of Independence; four nephews; and two nieces.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her father, Donald H. Heims on December 30, 2000; and her paternal and maternal grandparents.
