Mary Marie King, 96, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at ManorCare, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, October 13, 2018, at the Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Mary was born on July 20, 1922, in Madison County, Indiana, the daughter of Charles H. and Rosetta M. (Helton) Johnson. In 1939, she graduated from Evanston Township High School, Evanston, Illinois.
On June 5, 1943, Mary was united in marriage to John R. “Bob” King in West Palm Beach, Florida. Mary worked as a telephone operator in Illinois and was a civil servant in Florida and Chicago, Illinois, before becoming a full time wife and mother. She was a member of New Disciples Church.
Mary is survived by her children, William (Carolyn) King of Cedar Rapids, Rev. Robert (Marilyn) King of Austin, Texas and Susan (Andrew) Stenberg of Tulsa, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 2001; her parents, Charles and Rosetta Johnson; sister, Kathryn Lanning; brother, Charles Johnson, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Rita King; and grandson, Stephen Stenberg; and sister, Freda Lenconi.
