Mary Louise Holmquist (Toye)
July 12, 1921 — June 14, 2008
Mary Louise Holmquist, 86, a resident of Crestview Acres in Marion, died there on Saturday, June 14, 2008, following a brief illness. Memorial service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services. Inurnment will take place in September at Mound Cemetery in Ortonville, Minnesota.
Survivors include four sons, Paul (Sandy Miller) Holmquist, August J. (JoAnn) Holmquist of Cocoa, Florida, John (Christina) Holmquist of Big Rapids, Michigan, and Joe Holmquist of Marion; six grandchildren, Tammy (Mark) Asplund of Marion, Todd Holmquist of Cedar Rapids, Shannon Holmquist of Cedar Rapids, Emily Holmquist of Big Rapids, Michigan, and Jeremy (Beth) and Josh Bertsch of Florida; ten great-grandchildren, Mallory, Mckenzie, Maddison, Troy, Spencer, Trinity, Bailee, Alexus, Abigail, and Sophia; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters; two brothers; and a daughter-in-law.
Mary was born July 12, 1921, the daughter of Prosper and Selma (DeVrint) Toye in Mitchell. She married August F. Holmquist on January 26, 1946, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. She and August owned and operated Big Augie’s Bait Shop in Ortonville, Minnesota for many years. Mary was an avid BINGO player, enjoyed sporting events, and being surrounded by her family.
