Mary Ann Hocken, 93, a resident of Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Central City, died Friday, September 27, 2013, at Cottage Grove. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 30, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills.
Survivors include her daughter, Carlene, and husband David Howe of Central City; her grandsons, Jesse Howe and his wife, Amanda, and Matthew Howe and his wife, Heidi; great-grandchildren, Audrey and Natalie Howe, and Landon and Macy Howe; and sister, Libby Dalecky.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delmer; and brother, Ed Machacek.
Mary was born May 12, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Nekous) Machacek. She was a graduate of Wilson High School. Mary married Delmer Hocken on January 25, 1952, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Delmer died September 27, 2002. Mary worked for Collins Radio for over ten years prior to staying at home to raise her family. She was a member of the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library. Mary was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to bake for her grandchildren. She will be missed by all.
