Mary Maxine Herb, 79, of Fairfax, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 4 – 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at the funeral home. Entombment will follow the service at the Linwood Cemetery Mausoleum in Cedar Rapids. A luncheon will be held at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood following entombment. Mary was born September 30, 1943, in Iowa City, the daughter of Albert and Mary “Maxine” (Walker) Loukota. She was united in marriage to Jimmy Dean Herb on August 12, 1961, in Cedar Rapids. Mary worked at Collins for over 38 years. Mary and Jim traveled many places together with their kids, friends, and each other; she was set on seeing the world and living life to the fullest. Mary loved having a big family and her favorite times were having everyone together for every holiday, birthday, and special occasion. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mary will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Herb; children, Dennis (Deb) Herb, Rudy (Sondra) Herb, and Denise Herb, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Morgan (Emily) Herb, Kaity (Brandon) Sorel, Abby (Jake) Anderson, Cole (MacKenzie) Herb, Kayla (Zach) Saucedo, Anna (Kurtis) Herb, and Rachel (Norman) Borntrager; great-grandchildren, Bea, Frankie, James, Emersyn, Eliette, Hadley, Hayden, Kendall, Presley, Elias, and Scarlett; brother, Jim Loukota of Cedar Rapids; her special dog, Zuzu; and grand dogs, Stitch and Coopie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Maxine Loukota; and special cousins, John Walker and Lewis Thurston.
