Mary K. Held
July 17, 1912 — May 23, 2005
Mary K. Held, 92, a longtime resident of Salida, Colorado, most recently of Marion, died Monday, May 23, 2005, at the Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, Iowa, after a short illness. Memorial services will be held at Village Ridge (365 Marion Blvd., Marion, IA), at 2:30 pm, Wednesday, June 8, 2005. A memorial service will also be held in Salida, Colorado, on Sunday, June 12 , with inurnment at Fairview Cemetery in Salida. Local arrangements are by Murdoch Funderal Home and Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include two sons, John H. "Hank? (Pamela) Held of Littleton, Colorado and George F (Pamela) Held of Cedar Rapids, and five grandchildren, Sara (Brett) VanHorn, Alicia Held, Anne-Marie Held, Jennifer Held, and Christina Held.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a daughter, Mary Ann.
Mary was born the daughter of George and Sally Bundy Keetch on July 17, 1912, in Lisle, Missouri. She received her B.S. degree from Ottawa University. On June 30, 1936, she was united in marriage to John E. Held in Kansas City, Missouri. He died December 16, 1996. Mary taught school over twenty years and substituted for fifteen years in the Salida schools.
A memorial scholarship fund has been established in Mary?s memory to provide scholarships to Salida High School students who plan to become school teachers.
