Mary Leona Hayek (Hembera)

Mary L. Hayek, 92, of the Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, Iowa, died there Thursday, September 13, 2007, following a long illness. Private family services were held. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Douglas (Gail) Hayek of Sherman Oaks, California, Marilyn (John) Christiansen of Cedar Rapids and Dennis (Sandra) Hayek of Chesterfield, Missouri; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; and a brother, Joseph.
Born on November 1, 1914, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Dobesh) Hembera, she married Richard Hayek on November 7, 1942, in Missouri. He died in 1956.
Mary enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, reading good mystery books, crocheting and painting. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren.
