Mary Ann H. Barta (85) of 127 Josephine Lane N.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died on October 5, 2006, following a sudden illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 9, 2006, at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Steven Rosonke. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 8, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a scripture service will begin at 7:00. Inurnment: St. John?s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include four sons, Chuck (Sheila) and Matt (Pam) of Cedar Rapids; Jon of Milton, Florida and Paul (Michelle Pizio) of Whitesboro, Texas; six daughters, Lynda Goodell, Margaret (Bill) Cones and Jean Johnson of Cedar Rapids; Eileen (Don Bradford) Sylvester of Pembroke Pines, Florida, JoAnn (Cliff) Rice of Berthoud, Colorado and Katie (Roger Waud) Barta of Alexandria, Virginia; twelve grandchildren, Jami (Jade) Harper, Cara (Nick) Streff, Luke and Emma Barta of Cedar Rapids, Shelly (Rusty) Jeffrey of West Point, Mississippi, Gina Goodell of Higley, Arizona, Lisa (Jack) Lagatella of Rochester, New York, Angie (Mike) Andrews of Waterloo, Iowa, Todd Sylvester of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Jody (John) Alderman of Lakewood, Colorado, Dan (Kathy) Tresnak of Frisco, Texas, Corey (Diane Yehle) Tresnak of Charlotte, North Carolina; 20 great-grandchildren, Jessie, Jason, Alyssa, Chris, Cassie, Kerri, Tommy, Kristen, Kevin, Ali, Jake, Jazmyn, Jaxson, Jaezen, Mara, Colin, Anna Marie, Gracie, Elizabeth and Avery; 8 step grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Charles of 64 years, parents, John and Katherine Kramer, three brothers, Kenneth, Donald and John Richmond Kramer, and three sisters, Thelma, Naomi and Ruth Abeln.

Mary Ann was born in Dyersville, Iowa, on December 5, 1920. She attended St. Francis Xavier School until the family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1935. She graduated from St. Patrick?s High School in 1938 and the Paris Beauty Academy in 1940. Mary Ann married Charles Barta on September 13, 1941. She was a member of St. Patrick?s Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters and a life member of Post 788 of the VFW Auxiliary.
Mary Ann bowled for many years, was an avid golfer and a talented dancer. She enjoyed watching sports, especially golf with Tiger Woods and Iowa football and basketball. She especially enjoyed watching baseball, soccer and swimming when her grandchildren, Emma and Luke participated.
