Mary Ann Geers, 80, of Marion, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018, at Winslow House Care Center, Marion. Parish Vigil Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. The family will greet friends and family from 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Mary Ann was born July 24, 1937, in New Vienna, Iowa, the daughter of John and Lucille (Huegelmann) Hoefler. She attended school in Dubuque County. On January 31, 1956, in New Vienna, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Aloysius “Al” Geers. She was a school bus driver at Alburnett Community Schools for 13 years. Mary Ann was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, and the Wandering Wheels camping club. She enjoyed fishing, boating, being outdoors and gardening. She also enjoyed cooking, taking care of her kids, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Aloysius “Al”; children, Robert (Stephanie) Geers of Cedar Rapids, Roger (Judy) Geers of Urbana, Ohio, Donna (Dan) Wolf of Plano, Texas, Dianne (Tim) Moyer of Coggon, and Randy (Kelly) Geers of Northglenn, Colorado; 12 grandchildren, Kristin (Eric) Stakland, Elizabeth Kaiser, Jacob (Erica) Geers, Cory (Katie) Geers, Brian (Hallie) Moyer, Luke (Dominique) Geers, Laura Geers, Chelsie Geers, Quinn Wolf, Joel Geers, Kyle Wolf, and Ian (Lauren) Ortiz; 16 great-grandchildren with two more blessings on the way; siblings, Germaine Schilling, John Hoefler, Clarence “Clem” (Joan) Hoefler, Eileen (Jim) Simon, and Dave (Joyce) Hoefler; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Hoefler, Rosie Klien, Ed Geers, Bud (Bonnie) Geers, Fritz (Mary) Geers, Bill (Ginny) Geers, Gertie (Ralph) Hunt, Steve (Lila) Geers, Charlie (Vicki) Geers, Clara (Jack) Cole, Sharon Wiskus, and Pat Geers; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arnold Hoefler; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gerhard and Frieda Geers; and numerous other in-laws.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mary Ann’s memory.
