Mary Carolyn English, 70, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, April 25, 2009, in ManorCare Health Services, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, David; children, Joni (Bret) Throlson of Marion and Christopher (Jeri) English of Somerset, Kentucky; grandchildren, Jason, Cory and Austin; brothers, Dan (Barbara) Balik of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Bob (Deborah) Balik of Fort Collins, Colorado; mother-in-law, Helen English of Cedar Rapids; and her golden retriever Augstin.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Donald, who died in infancy and Ronald.
Born August 17, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, Mary was the daughter of Louis and Ludmila (Bisinger) Balik. On December 27, 1958, she was united in marriage to David English. In her later years she worked at Regis Middle School and St. Pius Grade School.
