Mary Helen Dufoe, 85, long time resident of Center Point, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at the Pleasantview Nursing Home in Kalona. Services: 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2003, at First Christian Church, Center Point, by Rev. John Caughron. Friends may call from 5-8 on Wednesday at the Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Center Point Cemetery.
Survivors include children, Gene Dufoe and Loretta of Mesa, Arizona, Linda Wooldridge of Kalona, and Don Dufoe and Shirlee of Center Point; her grandchildren, Susie Stark and Rodney of Center Point, Greg Dufoe and Laurie of Liberty, Missouri, Christi Eldred and Cal of Cedar Rapids, Lannie Dufoe and Jane of Center Point, Dee Dufoe of California, Lori Miller and Lyle of Wellman, Julie Devlin and Mike of Phoenix, Arizona, Mark Wooldridge of Tampa, Florida, Daryl Dufoe and Carol of Maryland Heights, Maryland, Shelley Dufoe of Mexico City, Mexico, Von Dufoe of St. Louis, Missouri; a sister-in-law, LaVonne McVey of Vinton, Iowa and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard; two brothers, Clair and Orval; and a sister, Fern.
Mary Helen was born on August 27, 1917, in Center Point, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde and Ella Clark McVey. Following graduation from Vinton High School, she taught at a country school. She married Howard A. Dufoe on December 25, 1937. He died on August 21, 1976. Howard and Mary Helen owned and operated Dufoe Hardware in Center Point for 40 years. Mary Helen was an active member of First Christian Church, Center Point.
