Mary Ellen Craff (Walters)

Mary E. Craff, 93, a resident of Garnett Place, Cedar Rapids, died there Friday, July 18, 2008, following a short illness. Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Private inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements are by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include her children, Dennis (Sandra) Craff of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Donna (James) Jacobsen of Scaly Mountain, North Carolina, and Robert Craff of San Francisco, California; one sister, Irene Hamer of Waterloo; 6 grandchildren, Craig Lauri, Kimberly, Danielle, Amanda, and Jonathon; 6 great-grandchildren, Daniel, Jared, Darrell, Molly, Faith, and Kamryn; and her longtime companion, Kenneth “Kenny” Silker, Sr. of Garnett Place in Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and 3 sisters, Vivian, Helen, and Ruth.
Mary was born September 18, 1914, the daughter of Purl Sylvester and Grace Ethel (Miller) Walters, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She married F.R. “Kelly” Craff on April 3, 1937, in Cedar Rapids. He died on August 27, 1977. Mary and her husband were long-time employees of Murdoch Funeral Home. She was a member of the Marion Business Girls, the Early Ford V8 Club and the N.A.C.C.C. Alumni Chapter #69.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice in Mary’s memory.
