Mary Louise Campbell, 99, formerly of Center Point, died Saturday, February 18, 2012, at the East Town Care Center, Independence, from a short illness related to her age. Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 24, at the funeral home. Burial: Rowley Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, JoAnn Opperman of Tempe, Arizona, and Keith (Linda) Campbell of Elkader, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kevin (Suzanne) Opperman of West Virginia; Lynne Campbell of Grimes, Iowa, LuAnn (Steve) Schlafke of Dallas Center, Iowa, and Lanette (Eric) Miller of Indian Mound, Tennessee; eight great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross; grandson, Steven Opperman; three brothers, Clarence, Leonard and William; and two sisters, Lucille and Marguerite.
Mary Louise was born December 15, 1912, the daughter of Will H. and Clara (Hobbs) Porter, in Washington, Iowa. A 1931 graduate of Walker High School, she was united in marriage to Ross Campbell on November 23, 1933. He died April 13, 1996. Mary Louise lived on the same farmstead for over 77 years moving to East Towne Care Center in November 2011. She also was a bus driver for the Linn County Lifts Bus, retiring at age 70 after eight years of service.
The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the staff at East Towne Care Center for their nurturing kindness while caring for Mary Louise. We are grateful for your patience and compassion in accommodating our mother and grandmother.
The family is grateful to the kind folks from the Cedar Valley Hospice team for their expertise and comfort they provided to Mary Louise and family during her final days. Your grace and mercy will be remembered.
Guests are invited to join the family and celebrate Mary Louise’s life with refreshments and fellowship at the Rowley Community Center following the interment.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice in Independence or Center Point United Methodist Church in Center Point, in memory of Mary Louise.
