Marvon A. Smith, 83, a resident of Keystone Place, Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, December 11, 2008, at his home, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Jonathan Offt. The family will greet friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Irene; his children, James L. Smith of Marshalltown, Diane Smith of Marion, and Jeff (Sharon) Smith of Round Rock, Texas; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Josh) Clemann, Haleigh Smith and Mason Smith; three great-grandchildren, Raelynn Danford, Hunter Danford and Halie Clemann; a sister, Arlyce (Bill) Niffenegger of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Wallace Smith of Cedar Rapids; a brother-in-law, William (Laverna) Kulhavy of Cedar Rapids; and a sister-in-law, Alice Brammer of Greeley, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, William and Caroline Kulhavy; and a sister, Colleen Smith.
Marvon was born May 2, 1925, the son of Floyd and Wilma (Silka) Smith, in Des Moines, Iowa. A Franklin High School graduate, he served in the United States Navy and was a lifetime member of the VFW. On June 23, 1950, Marvon was united in marriage to Irene Kulhavy. For many years, he worked as a salesman for industrial pipe valves & fittings, retiring in 1985. Marvon was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church or to the donor’s choice in memory of Marvon.
