Marvin Allen Young, Sr.
June 18, 1939 — January 18, 2004
Marvin A. Young, Sr. 64, of 2912 Oakland Rd. NE, Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, January 18, 2004, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Laura Smith of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Kathleen; his children, Margaret A. Young (David Arnold) of Marion, Marvin A. (Sheryl) Young, Jr., Gayle A. Young, all of Marion, Laura E. Ogreen and Charles R. Young, Sr. (Jackie Heppe), both of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren; Thomas (Denise) Paulson, Jr., Daniel Arnold, David Arnold, Jr., Jennifer Arnold and Angela Arnold, Benjamin (Sarah) Young, Sarah Young, Brandon Ogreen, Kyler Ogreen, Cameron Ogreen, Charles Young, Jr., Jacob Young and Stephanie Heppe and Gage Young; a brother, David Young, Sr. of Shellsburg; two sisters, Sharla (Jerry) Kelley and Sharon Terry, both of Cedar Rapids;his best friend and brother-in-law, James Lyons; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Eunice, Pauline and Joan; one brother, Raymond; and a grandson, Matthew Paulson.
Marvin was born June 18, 1939, the son of Gaylord and Lillian Waite Young, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On November 1, 1958, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Dougherty.
For 27 years, Marvin worked for Cargill, Inc. in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of the Teamsters Local #238. Marvin will be truly missed and has left many memories for all who knew and loved him.
Memorials may be made to the Iowa City Hospice in memory of Marvin.
